Remarkable increase of DDoS Attacks in Q1 2023
The Dutch National Scrubbing Center (NaWas) protects participants against DDoS attacks. Besides protection, NaWas offers valuable insights about the changing landscape of DDoS. To better combat these malicious attacks, we share our up-to-date knowledge with interested parties. Together we stand strong against DDoS attacks.
In Q1, there was a significant rise in DDoS attacks compared to the previous quarter. The total number of attacks was 676, and there was a rise in new active botnets and multi-vector attacks targeting application-layer (L7) and botnet-based direct-path attacks.
National security services, hospitals and healthcare, and other critical infrastructure were the most commonly targeted vectors, and attacks occurred simultaneously across the globe. As geopolitical conflicts intensify, the volume of DDoS attacks is expected to increase, with cyber warfare being a possible medium used for attacks.
