NaWas and AMS-IX join forces against DDoS attacks

Recently, NaWas, the anti-DDoS service of the NBIP Foundation, has noticed that smaller Internet Service Providers (ISPs) have been suffering more from DDoS attacks and are receiving extortion emails. NaWas is therefore cooperating with AMS-IX to deliver clean traffic after mitigation.

Countering DDoS attacks has to be taken more seriously. In the first quarter of this year, for example, NaWas, the anti-DDoS washing machine of the NBIP foundation, already measured more attacks than in the whole of 2020. The most powerful attack even reached 300 Gbps.

Furthermore, more and more parties are suffering from DDoS attacks. “For example, we recently experienced a wave of attacks on smaller Internet Service Providers (ISPs). These parties had not yet set up any DDoS protection, or only limited protection. Connecting these organisations to NaWas caused quite a busy period for our team. Fortunately, the mitigation was successful in almost all cases and the attacks were repelled,” says Frank Dupker (European Network Manager at NaWas).

Cooperation is very important when combating DDoS attacks. “At NaWas we, therefore, work closely with the AMS-IX team. Because they were able to quickly make ports active and add parties to our private VLAN, we have already helped many parties in their fight against DDoS attacks by working together.”
